state universities

The "Epicurean Dealmaker" blog has me very accurate appearing posting about the condition of the (U.S.) universities , especially of literature and art, comes in response to an email and in a slightly sarcastic wording ("Sadly, my world view is completely bereft of understanding or appreciation subtle for the finer points of Crypto-Columbian Transvestite Literature from the sub-Amazonian basin from onward 1953rd In other words-as your professors will gleefully tell you-I am a complete idiot. ").
The post is worth reading even for us Austrians much better it is in our universities can not (further details in a later comment).

Another reason the above post seems to me that it reflects a healthy world view. One of the few species the world would really improve, learn if we could statements like the following to understand and take to heart (at least apart from the rather drastic language):

"Quality matters. No matter what age, pedigree, or recommendation comes attached to a work of art, if it is lousy, I do not read it. And neither should you. Life is too fucking short for bad writing."
It is at least a question of self-respect, if we stick together, the brain can be pseudo-entertainment on television, dummy communication on the Internet, pseudo-information in newspapers, post-modern pseudo-science and politically motivated pseudo-art, to name just a few things. This does not mean things automatically reject (I see too far - so one or two times a week), but the conscious choice depends on it Unfortunately, there are many who are interested in this very sensitive. Choice for us to make difficult - whether the goal is washing or changing the world fantasies is for sale makes no difference because .

PS: If someone's English is too difficult in the above link I recommend the books by Pinker and Sokal on my reading page to treat the used themes from the environment; on "conscious choice" about the book by Cialdini.
As to the underlying settings worth perhaps a quick look at my very first posting justice, a cabaret?
